Chapter 3: Bildungsroman presents an open-ended narrative that subverts traditional representations of mother and child through idiosyncratic actions set in both landscape and studio. Cinematic in nature, these images capture the emergence of the child, with the mother’s body often serving as the ground for the action. The performers include my children, close friends, and relatives. Within this constellation of images, maternal norms are challenged and deconstructed through material collage, sometimes breaking apart and drifting into abstract compositions.
